A training manual or operational manual is a book or booklet of instructions, designed to improve the quality of a performed task or outline what is required for performing certain taks. Training manuals and operational manuals are widely used, in private sector business and government public sector organisations.

They may form an important part of a formal training programme. For example, it may help ensure consistency in presentation of content. It may also ensure that all training information on skills, processes, and other information necessary to perform tasks is together in one place.

These manuals come in all shapes and sizes because of the requirement to update them from time to time most manuals will have some binding method that makes it easy to remove old and insert new pages.

Plastic Spiral Binding - This binding method is good for technical manuals that have a lot of pages and must lie flat. The stack of pages comprising the book is punched with a series of holes along the binding edge through which a plastic comb is inserted. It can also accommodate numerous pages, and pages can be added or removed as needed.

Wire Binding - Wire binding is one of the most popular commercial book binding methods used and is known by a number of different names including twin loop wire, Wire-o, double loop wire, double-o, ring wire and wirebind. Documents that are bound with wire binding will open completely flat on a desk and allow for 360 degree rotation of bound pages.

When combined with tabs the binding methods above produce an easy to use manual.
